Department for Work and Pensions launched Restart in response to an increase in unemployment following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pleased to see this reinvention of specialist DEAs (!) Undoubtedly well intentioned but are DWP not just a tad concerned about yet another over complication of the employment support landscape?

Great to see and v welcome: lots of evidence for impact of good quality rehabilitation alongside health support.

Tony Wilson Basic Income UK Serving the requirements of the benefit system to avoid sanctions really gets in the way of trying to find and get an actual job.

The good thing about govt reannouncing stuff is you can recycle old threads...
So this one is on the last time we tried and evaluated a 'work for your benefit' scheme.
Spoiler: it didn't really work...

With the 'jobless to lose benefits' stuff being reannounced today, just a reminder that the govt's own analysis found that sanctions appeared to lead to fewer people getting jobs...

Obviously, a grotesque response to rampant destitution to threaten to cut desperate people's money off

Less obviously, it's self-defeating
