Today is the 200th anniversary of the founding of the RNLI. The first station opened on Southend pier in 1879. A second station was built in 1885-91. The lifeboat ‘Greater London’ (below) assisted in the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940. #RNLI200

The sun shone gloriously for a very special Sea Sunday in Kinsale today with a pride of place to the RNLI Stations on this its #RNLI200 anniversary. Thank you to all the Sea Sunday Committee, St Multose Church and the many rescue services that took part.
