Palestinian academics in the UK urgently call for solidarity in defence of Gaza universities. UK universities & international organisations must support rebuilding #GazaUniversities .

When universities that decry the lack of academic freedom in other countries start sending police to arrest their own staff for exercising that freedom (& protecting students’ right to protest the horrors of war in those countries), we should all be very concerned.

Not only do many carers have long-term illnesses & disabilities (some pre-existing & some caused by the caring role), this kind of interdependency can lead to thoughts of (& deaths by) suicide & homicide if the carer’s needs go unmet.

This is very concerning.

Universities are supposed to uphold academic freedom & protect students.

Banning academics from campus when they exercise that freedom & fight for their students is the start of a very slippery slope.

Very good BBC Radio 4 PM segment on Carer’s Allowance from 22 minutes in today. Shocking case of a carer forced to repay £20,000 for accidental breach of earning la limit. She sent DWP her payslips for years and they took no action - then threatened her with debt recovery officers.

I never cease to be amazed by charities, health & social care professionals, journalists, & other folks with a platform who refuse to publicly discuss suicide because it’s too sensitive or controversial.

Protesters accused police of excessive force during arrests at an anti-war protest camp at Emory University in the US where one female professor was hauled to the ground and detained and another demonstrator tasered.

If you’re arresting academics, it’s a sure sign you’re on the wrong side of history.
