A painted lady butterfly on Gunton warren was the only sign of any migration, along with a supporting cast of Silver Y moth. Very thin birdwise apart from a decent north passage of swallow and 5+ whitethroat for the BBS. A green hairstreak was welcome.

Martin Warren BC Dorset 🦋 I was thinking the same thing. A sudden explosion a few weeks ago, then two weeks of rain, and now, virtually none. A few whites and speckled woods, but little else. The bramble flowers aren't out here yet either (Yeovil area). I guess we just have to wait and hope.

Orange-tip caterpillar found on the garlic mustard I’m keeping an eye on whilst house- and dog-sitting in Cambridgeshire, and more eggs located this morning.

Looks like it's going to be an early year for many midsummer butterflies. A freshly emerged Large Skipper in S Glos today (I found the vacated pupal case!) - my 2nd earliest LS ever, after 14/5/2011. Oddly, it's female (males usually are 1st). Richard Fox

Well it had to happen, despite informing Mid Suffolk District Council about up to 30 pairs of red-listed Skylarks and 3 Yellow Wagtails are holding territory and nesting on fields, someone has been and pulled the ground up doubtless destroying many nests.

Is it just me or is there a dearth of butterflies this year? Nice day today in mid Dorset, but just the odd Brimstone, Peacock, Orange-tip, Green-veined White. I saw more Dukes than anything else!! And they are always in small numbers! BC Dorset 🦋
