I managed to film one of the migrated Painted Lady butterflies today and noted it was moving between its larval foodplant, Thistle.
On analysing my film later I see it laid an egg!

A selection of Holly Blue and Brimstone butterfly eggs from our garden here in Wootton, Northampton. It is amazing how quickly you can encourage butterflies into the garden if you plant the right plants, in this case, Buckthorn (Brimstone) and Dogwood (Holly Blue).
