It's rare when I run across something new about Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars series. But then I found this cover, which I rate as 'okay' at best. It's by George Barr, for the paperback of Richard Lupoff's 'Barsoom,' an in-depth examination of ERB's John Carter series.

This is (un)historical fiction rather than sci-fi. But ERB is primarily known for sci-fi, and it sports a dynamite cover by the SF&F legend Frank Frazetta. This was the first ERB book I ever read, and it was all due to that cover. I loved it at 11, and still do at 67.

A fantastic Boris cover is apparently wasted on this sci-fi adventure novel from 1976. A 3-star review on Goodreads claims the cover represents a single scene, and isn't indicative of the rest of the book. That's too bad, since the cover would absolutely catch my eye.
