Finally, we tried to tide up the mess in the nomenclature on this part of spiralian tree. We systematize different naming systems and proposed to exclude Chaetognatha from Gnathifera and instead use Chaetognathifera to refer to the earliest branch of Spiralia. (3/4)

Big congrats to June Ordonez who did a great job working on this enigmatic critter!

I am such a big fan of this double page spread.

Morphology of Nanaloricidae and Pliciloricidae in Schmidt-Rhaesa 2013 (Handbook of Zoology - Gastrotricha, Cycloneuralia and Gnathifera).

Loriciferans are just excellent.

Another potential stem lineage Gnathifera - very interesting! A possible Cambrian stem-group gnathiferan-chaetognath from the Weeks Formation (Miaolingian) of Utah cambridge.org/core/journals/…

𓆨Luke A Parry𓆨 Spiralia. As Ferdinand Marlétaz points out, if Gnathifera (including chaetognaths) branch first, then neither lophophore nor trochophore are ancestral for the clade, but spiral cleavage could be since gnathostomulids might have it. (if they don't: Gnathospiralia)

And here is another super cool one, on the Cambrian Amiskwia which does not nest within Gnathifera, but is closer to arrow worms. Also🥂 to the newly recovered 'Gynognathifera', an apparently female powered clade😅
