I'm a Black mama who almost died during childbirth when my daughter was born 9 weeks early. She spent the next 6 weeks in the NICU.

Long-standing racial disparities contribute to the staggeringly high maternal mortality rates Black mamas face. We deserve #BirthEquity .

Currently, a woman’s pregnancy, postpartum, and newborn care is determined by insurance. This is not okay.

HB 5142 will help every family in Illinois access the most appropriate care for their birthing process, regardless of their income status. #BirthEquity
