#FindsFriday : Quite lovely wall plaster from a #Romanvilla . Probably deriving from a single room scheme, it would have been quite the sight. Its imitation marble swishing, much-admired Egyptian blue and ornate foliage perhaps would have looked a bit...much.
For #FindsFriday we have this roughly hewn stone relief of a ghostly figure from a #Roman villa in Northants. We think it may be the iconographic representation of #Roman disco(?) It's mysterious, evocative and elegantly rustic!

#Rockbourne #RomanVilla had a lot of alterations in its 400-year existence! The first building was a cottage, built on top of the earlier Iron Age roundhouse. Constructed in the late 1st century and had 3 rooms. #RomanBritain
Our fantastic stone finial in the museum is one of our largest objects on display. In architecture, a finial is a decorative ornament to empathize the roof. #FindsFriday #RomanBritain #RomanVilla
Rockbourne Roman Villa's low stone walls was likely footings that would have supported a half-timbered superstructure, probably of only a single storey.

Entering the Villa from below during the fourth century (when the Villa was at its grandest) would have been an impressive and somewhat intimidating experience. #romanbritain #romanvilla
