She wasn't doing a thing that I could see, except standing there leaning on the balcony railing, holding the universe together.

I've just finished reading 'Jane Eyre' by Charlotte Brontë, a classic novel and a powerful reading from start to end. It has a subtle balance between a romantic tale and an intriguing puzzle whose pieces are not put in place until the last chapter.

Here it is broad, there still, or clear, or cold, or muddy or warm
It is the same with men

Today, André Alexis taught me the word 'menefreghista' in his story 'Consolation' now in The New Yorker. I am enjoying the story told, as Alexis always tells, in that casual, cool, narrative voice he always uses, like a stranger talking to you at a busstop.

RP John M Taylor:
An unusual suspense thriller with a hint of humour, recounting an unpredictable chain of events as we experience village life in the early 1900.
