An event so awesome it’s held twice a year! #CZBiohubSF ’s Inter-lab Confab brought together students, postdocs, and PIs for an energizing afternoon of sharing science and building community.
Enjoy these highlights.
Enjoyed attending the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network #CZBioHubSF Physician-Scientist Research Symposium today. The fellows were truly inspiring. Looking forward to the next application cycle and hoping they accept new fellows!
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Lubert Stryer, a terrific friend and mentor. Our first recruit at #CZBiohubSF , he led the inaugural investigator competition and established a culture of scientific excellence and collegiality.
He was a remarkable scientist and human being.
Spooky #Maythe4th science from #CZBiohubSF Investigators: “We can take a single laser and essentially diffract the beam, … shaped to all the neurons exactly where they are. It’s like the 3D holographic displays in ‘Star Wars.’”

#CZBiohubSF Investigator Hawa Thiam is designing new ways to experimentally replicate the physical forces cells encounter in the body bit.ly/3vbEIbo
Just spent the last 2 weeks in mNGS training at #CZBiohubSF . It’s been an intense 2 weeks of lab work, data analysis and interacting with experts in the field. Looking forward to putting what I have learnt to practice in the lab back home in Zambia.
Last week to submit an abstract!

Artists + scientists have been visualizing what our cell’s powerhouses—the mitochondria—look like since 1857. With images like this captured for the Human Organelle Library by the #CZImagingInstitute + #CZBiohubSF we no longer have to guess!
#MayTheFourth be with you! #CZBiohubSF Investigators are bringing #StarWarsDay to the lab by using 3D holograms to interact with neurons, making sci-fi a reality in today's neuroscience bit.ly/493i5DO
No one really wonders how cell nuclei squeeze through narrow passages, but #CZBiohubSF Investigator Hawa Thiam couldn’t stop thinking about it. That’s why her team is digging into how physical factors + the inner workings of cells enable certain behaviors bit.ly/3vbEIbo
An inspiring day at the #CZBiohubSF with the brilliant Alfonso Martinez Arias. Illuminating talk on #gastruloids and stimulating discussion about #DevBio ! A lot of thought to go back in the lab!
🗺️ Imagine if researchers had Google Maps for our cells.
#CZBiohubSF has created a new method to map virtually all protein locations in cells & trace where they move to when hijacked by disease. This could revolutionize how we study + treat diseases ➡️ bit.ly/3RPUcKP
Dare we say it? New research by #CZBiohubSF investigators flips conventional understanding of starfish anatomy on its head. 🙃
