The world of journalism lost a true gem this week. Kim Christensen was a brilliant investigative reporter, an extraordinarily sharp critical thinker and a fantastic colleague and human being. Doug Smith with a beautiful obit. latimes.com/california/sto…
Hopefully you “will feel the love that emanates from these photos, & that maybe you’ll even be inspired to pull over… to breathe LA in & appreciate its landscape the way Greg did.”

My 1st story after returning to Los Angeles Times! It's about the tenacity of a Death Valley lake that park officials expected to dry up long ago. Instead, storms this month roughly doubled its size. People are now kayaking on it, including at least one ranger! bit.ly/3uDvuV9

Terrific move at Los Angeles Times: the beloved Maria La Ganga — who grew up in the San Fernando Valley! — promoted to deputy managing editor for California and Metro, our largest department. A graceful writer, thoughtful editor and the best cookie baker in the West latimes.com/about/pressrel…
This has been an awful week so let’s end it with some positivity— I’m a minor character in the latest from Michael Connelly — which is as cool and it is utterly jnsane!
RESURRECTION WALK is a great read, and if you’re craving some Lincoln Lawyer (and a dash of me) grab it today!
No words can express the horrific decision to layoff 115 of my latimes colleagues. Francine Orr represents the very heart of the LATimes and has risked her life many times for the public good. L.A. Times Guild 🦅 is fighting to preserve some of these jobs. #sad isn’t enough.
just got laid off by the Los Angeles Times and I’m currently staying at a lighthouse in Oregon for work lol! If anyone is looking for someone to write about travel, culture, nightlife, truly anything — pls hit me up! [email protected]
L.A. Times management has notified me that 94 L.A. Times Guild 🦅 members are being notified of intended layoff today, or about one-fourth of our whole membership.
This total, while devastating, is nonetheless far lower than the total number of Guild layoffs initially expected last week.

This morning, I received this letter from the Los Angeles congressional delegation expressing deep concern about impending newsroom cuts at the Los Angeles Times.

Former LA mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa posted this: “We can't let the LA TIMES die on the vine. These layoffs will kill the newspaper.
This is LA, a world class city that needs a world class newspaper. More than a 100 layoffs are of mostly young, newer, more diverse reporters.
