Support IRE and NICAR! I’ve been a proud dues-paying member of IRE longer than I’ve been a dues-paying member of my own union. Supporting journalist membership orgs is vital as we all figure out how to keep doing quality independent investigative work as media transforms around us.

Not a comment on the situation specifically since I dunno, but a lot of times in a union newsroom you can get away with razzing the big boss, but going after your coworkers too is a death rattle.

Whoever and wherever you are, my sympathies to the We Make NPR stewards who had to deal with all that and were presumably going to faithfully carry out their duty of fair representation to him anyway.

On one side, there’s a community eating free tacos, celebrating each other’s stories, staying informed, involved, and supporting L.A.’s small businesses. On the other, a journalism dystopia ruled by AI that only plagiarizes, is never curious, and doesn’t question. Support L.A. TACO🌴🌮

I’m absolutely thrilled to announce Society of Professional Journalists new executive director! After a thorough search, the choice was clear that she is the leader our organization needs at this point in time. Congratulations Caroline Hendrie! Looking forward to working with you.

In my last term, Buffy Wicks and I authored ACR95, calling on the California Law Revision Commission to review CA’s antitrust laws for potential modernizing. The Commission is in that process. Attached is a letter I sent as public comment, regarding recent Google’s bully move.

First in Canada and now in California: Google is blocking access to news to avoid paying local journalists for their content.

CA should stand firm and reject Big Tech’s freeloading off local news.
