And here you can see why! This is the stem of a young Giant Hogweed, which has purple blotches and is covered in stiff bristles. If you come into contact with the sap it can cause bad blistering and swelling, made worse by exposure to the sun. 3/3

These moths have beautiful, long antennae. Normally I'd get the shot by gently holding the leaf to steady it and prevent movement in the wind but I wouldn't touch Giant Hogweed with a barge pole! 2/3

This was a really tricky subject to photograph, mainly because it was resting on Giant Hogweed and flailing around in the wind. I think it's a Green Longhorn moth (Adela reaumurella). 1/3

Hummersea this eve in glorious weather for a welcome change. Common whitethroat, yellowhammer & linnet galore in and around the gorse. Everything looking resplendent in the sunshine. teesbirds NorthYorksBirdNews

Had an enjoyable 5 hours at Hawsker Bottoms and Ness Point this morning. 7 species of Warbler including a very vocal but very elusive Sedge Warbler, 3 Lesser Whitethroats and a Garden Warbler. Also Yellow Wagtail, 8 Wheatears and a few Sand Martins. Whitby Naturalists NorthYorksBirdNews

No white-tailed eagle joy today at Hinderwell and Kilton but consolation that one of my very local patch redstarts is back. Lovely colour contrasts as ever. NorthYorksBirdNews teesbirds NatureUK Redstarts RSPB North York Moors NP Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
