Fantastic set of papers on what we might call medically ‘ignored’ illness Durham Institute for Medical Humanities #AVAR2021 this afternoon. Raising important questions about what ‘medical validation’ might mean and whether we need to reconceptualise this. Standard of presentation has been superb.
We'd love to hear from anyone interested in work on anxiety. Two year post available to work with us at Durham Institute for Medical Humanities Look forward to applications.
We are blossoming here at IMH in Durham as the fabulous #NNMHR2021 Congress team busy away inside running the show!
Martin O'Brien Waiting Times #NNMHR2021 suggests that COVID has meant we are all now part of the 'last breath society' of which he has been a member as a person with cystic fibrosis anticipating death at 30 - which did not come.
So many superb sessions at #NNMHR2021 today. A real highlight was the session I chaired on Structures for Visibility. Three fantastic speakers revealed the hidden structures that determine who and what is seen in medical education and in the user-group context.
On the parallels between #MECFS + #LongCovid as epidemics, Felicity Callard wonders if acknowledging ME in epidemic history will 'help [patients] cross the threshold into visibility.' So many are waiting from sickbeds. Her words are more profound than my assemblage. #NNMHR2021
Very much looking forward to joining #NNMHR2021 after a day unavoidably elsewhere. It is a huge triumph for the Congress team Durham Institute for Medical Humanities to have attracted such a huge number of people from all over the world. So proud to be part of this and glad the sun is shining on us!
Fantastic group of inspiring women speaking out about the challenges for BAME students and staff at Durham at a webinar on intersectionality this evening at Durham University Women@DU #WOCempowermentDU

Hitting 100 participants in our #WHSSCtogether meeting. Wonderful to see such a rich and varied group coming together. Thanks to Mary Robson for facilitation.
Looking forward to a day with our 'sister' Wellcome funded Humanities and Social Science Centres - getting to know you and debating research cultures and the value of HSS for health research. #WHSSCtogether Durham Institute for Medical Humanities
