A once sinking mass of sediment in Bayou De Cade, Louisiana is now a brackish marsh, thanks to the hard work of NOAA Habitat, and our partners!
They restored 473 acres of marsh habitat, combating land loss, and supporting local fisheries: bit.ly/3UXNOm0

In a recent study, scientists from NOAA Fish Southeast identified the most optimal habitat conditions to support Rice's whales. This information will help further research and understanding of the habitat and needs of the endangered species: bit.ly/44xAlVj
Did you know? NOAA Fisheries & partners are updating how we collect data on Gulf of Mexico shrimping effort. Learn how this will greatly increase the quality and efficiency of data collected: bit.ly/3RHIYYG

Even though amphibians don't live in the ocean, a few fish are named for these creatures - like frogfish! 🐸 These weird critters are masters of disguise & have leg-like pectoral fins that allow them to “walk” along the ocean floor looking for prey. #AmphibianWeek
May is #AmericanWetlandsMonth ! Our
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service colleagues just published their comprehensive 2009–19 wetlands inventory. Salt marshes experienced the highest proportional loss of all wetland categories. Conservation efforts are vital to stemming losses of these important habitats.
It's #AmphibianWeek !
Here at NOAA Fisheries, we may focus on reptiles like sea turtles, but we protect many rich habitats, like estuaries, that amphibians call home.
Join us in celebrating and learning about amphibians with our partners, like U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, this week! 🐸

We're celebrating the career and retirement of Dr. Charles 'Stormy' Mayo from CoastalStudies. For more than four decades, he conserved and studied marine species, especially North Atlantic right whales. We thank Dr. Mayo for his contributions to marine science: bit.ly/4dykUjV
