Our busiest night of the 2023 season was the 12 March when 20 volunteers helped 678 of them across the road (322 frogs, 123 newts and 233 toads) - after they'd been waiting for the wetter and warmer weather to head towards their breeding grounds #AmphibianWeek
Wrapping up #amphibianweek with this little cutie from a small tributary of the Limpopo River in Botswana. iNat does not want to work out here and my African frog field guide didn’t come in time. Any of my frog experts wanna help a girl out and tell me who this little guy is🐸??
329 Toads saved on My Two Toad Patrol Sites, Weasenham and Wellingham road!
It is a lower number saved than previous years, I hope this trend dissipates as it’s not good news for the Bufo bufo population in and around Litcham. #AmphibianWeek
It’s #AmphibianWeek , my dudes.
This week is all about celebrating the wonder of frogs, toads, newts, salamanders, & caecilians.
There is so much to 💚 about these unique, sometimes musical, mostly slimy, skin breathers!

I was a bit late to start #amphibianweek . One of my favorites, Valentine’s Southern Dusky Salamander (Desmognathus valentinei). Adult and juvenile from one of the type localities. I love these lighter individuals where the lateral spotting really pops. Mississippi, 2023.
A fresh shot from Santa Cruz for #AmphibianWeek , a few days ago I went looking for a new to me amphibian species & struck out. All was not lost though as I did photograph this pair of Ensatina - an adult + juvenile living under the same rock.
New #art #contest just dropped!!! We're so excited to pilot a K-12 #amphibian art contest this year for #AmphibianWeek ! This contest is being run by our high school intern.

You may have noticed this male southern two-lined salamander has tentacle-like projections under each nostril. These are called cirri & are thought to help pick up hormone trails to find females & detect competing males.
