The consumerfinance.gov's rule to cap credit card late fees at $8 was supposed to go into effect today but a Texas judge has blocked the rule.

This is a real blow to consumers who would have saved billions in junk fees each year.

It turns out forced arbitration clauses can still go too far for some courts. Great decision out of NJ earlier this month finding that Verizon's arbitration clause was unconscionable and unenforceable.

Advocates and lawmakers have been making progress on dismantling forced arbitration for harmed employees. Hopefully we'll see movement on the consumer protection front too.

The Big 3 credit bureaus have stopped reporting medical debts under $500 but medical debts are still plaguing millions of consumers' credit reports. This is why the CFPB's medical debt rulemaking is so important!

It doesn't cost Synchrony $30+ when a consumer makes a late payment. This is a transparent attempt to protect an unjust profit center.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is working to cap most credit card late fees at $8—down from an average of $32. That could put as much as $10 billion back in people’s pockets every year. Powerful corporate interests are trying to block reform. But I’m fighting back.

Thank you to Sen. Cory Booker, Senator Chris Van Hollen, and their congressional colleagues for their support of the CFPB's much-needed overdraft rule!

Unfairly high overdraft fees pad banks' profit margins while taking advantage consumers who can least afford it.

Popular messaging app Discord, which has come under fire for its privacy practices, updated its Terms of Service earlier this month to include a new forced arbitration clause.

Users are strongly encouraged to opt-out as soon as possible.

With CFPB clamping down on predatory overdraft and late fees, banks are looking for other ways to keep their profit margins but according to Ira Rheingold: 'I think there are some fundamental incentives that will keep them from going too crazy.'

Uber has a new strategy for silencing survivors: Prevent people who have been sexually assaulted, harassed, or otherwise injured from getting the representation they need to sue Uber in court.

Read about it in this suit we filed last night:

This morning Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing to shine a light on the harmful impact of forced arbitration clauses. It is past time to broadly prohibit the use of mandatory pre-dispute arbitration clauses, and that’s certainly true in the financial industry.

The Seventh Amendment guarantees the right to a jury trial, but that right is an empty promise for millions of Americans.

Forced arbitration clauses buried in fine print deny them their day in court.

We’re looking at the issue now. x.com/i/broadcasts/1…
