New blog - the story of Barbara the Barberess of Barts 💈

All 1700s London life lurks within - Fleet weddings, syphilis, perukes, watch-makers, a jury of Matrons, foundling babies and 'improper conduct'...

Have a read! 📚 ⬇️ Barts Health Archives St Bartholomew's Hospital

‘there is something deeply satisfying about finding new people like Barbara, who have no biographies, no portraits, and no commemorative plaques. They are compelling, but fugitive - a whole life glimpsed in a line or two of ink and then gone.’ 😍😍😍😍😍

It's again - but this time, we don't have the answer! According to a 1990 note from the radiotherapist who gave them, they were used in radiotherapy for breast cancer, and are of a design unique to The Royal London Hospital. Can you help us find out how they were used?

It's been really great to share what we've learnt, and how the service has developed, through a longstanding collaboration with one of our researchers, and to talk about the unique records of the Whitechapel Clinic

Great to be at the official Garrod building reopening this evening.
We were thrilled to help bring this central space for Barts and The London, Queen Mary staff and students alive with the history of the medical & dental school, through images, portraits & trophies from our collections

A train line named after a historic East London hospital? We're on board with that idea! We hold the surviving historic collections of the Mildmay, originally known as the Mildmay Mission Hospital

Part 1 of a double bill of medical collections this week. One of my favourite classes, a trip to Barts Health Archives via Great St Bartholomew with my Humanities at Westminster students. Thinking about place, science and history of med practise through some amazing objects!
