People are just so, so bad about mistaking the opinion of their peer group for broader public opinion. Including a lot of journalists and academics who cover this stuff for a living and ought to know better. It's kind of the Original Political Sin.

“Why isn’t she there?” @UBerliner asks of his former boss’s failure to appear before Congress to testify about whether NPR’s reporting is “fair and objective.”

We don’t track bias, but we do track opinion-leading language. We call it fiat news.

Uri Berliner is 100% correct in what he says. Over the past couple years NPR has injected a stunning quantity of opinion language into coverage. They rank #13 on our list of 121 news outlets.

On the calls to defund NPR, Uri Berliner specifically said that would be wrong, that many local public radio stations depend on federal funding & are the only sources of local news in their communities. He said this was a non-partisan matter. cnn.com/2024/04/11/med…

With his much-read essay on NPR, Uri Berliner has added to the episodic data on partisan leanings of mainstream U.S. newsrooms. In NPR's D.C. HQ a few years ago, he found 87 Dem journos and 0 Republican journos. thefp.com/p/npr-editor-h…

scoop: NPR's top editor said in a meeting with the new CEO and show hosts Wednesday that she didn't want to make Uri Berliner a 'martyr.'

We're told that everyone at the network is mindful of the disaster created by Juan Williams' firing in 2010.

People on the right who are praising NPR's Uri Berliner for his courage - and he is courageous to speak out - are in many cases the same people who have been too intimidated/cowardly to speak out against MAGA and the moral depravity of Donald Trump. Just sayin'.

Some folks on X are downplaying the courage Uri Berliner modeled in blowing the whistle on the deep ideological bias of his employer, NPR. I can only imagine that these are people who haven't themselves lived and worked in the milieu in which he lives and works. He's a brave man.

The only minority without a home at NPR is a conservative. Good for Uri Berliner for speaking truth about an institution I also love. I can only imagine the flack he’s catching. thefp.com/p/npr-editor-h…

Yep, Uri Berliner is spot on about NPR: 'politics were blotting out the curiosity..that ought to have been driving our work'

I was invited to be on All Things Considered April 2021 but became uninvited after stating kids shouldn't mask during sports🧵

NPR is why I got into journalism. But it’s also partially why I left legacy media.

By 2018, Trump voters wouldn’t talk to me, and I didn’t blame them—we often painted them as racists. And if I ever booked a white man, I’d better have a reason why.

“The trajectory for NPR is not promising. Two paths seem clear. We can keep doing what we’re doing, hoping it will all work out. Or we could start over, with the basic building blocks of journalism.”

“We could face up to where we’ve gone wrong. News organizations don’t go in for that kind of reckoning. But there’s a good reason for NPR to be the first: we’re the ones with the word ‘public’ in our name.” @uriberliner's hope for a U.S. media institution. thefp.pub/4aJXNk4
