Neoclassical economics relies on the assumption that technological progress enables green growth. Timothée Parrique and Alexandra Köves speak about different types of decoupling and explain why isolated examples don't prove it can work on a global scale.

“If the most sustainable resource is the one we can afford not using, there is a real case for minimising production & consumption as much as possible, starting with goods & services that contribute little to overall wellbeing.”

“The lazy man does not stand in the way of progress” writes Christopher Morley in his classic On Laziness (1920), “when he sees progress roaring down upon him he steps nimbly out of the way. The lazy man doesn’t (in the vulgar phrase) pass the buck. He lets the buck pass him.”

A concrete case of unequal exchange: scholars give their articles for free (or sometime even pay to submit) to Taylor & Francis Research Insights who sell them back for a fee. This is one of the most lucrative activities in the history of modern capitalism and this must stop.

Interesting new study maps EU targets and indicators to the doughnut-shaped 'safe and just space', and shows no EU country meets the needs of its residents within ecological limits.

Thank you Timothée Parrique for an insightful class on what degrowth is and is not! A concept that is relevant to young leaders when tackling critical sustainability challenges.

I called for limiting aviation advertising and I get these bot-like, trolling comments. The level of discussion on Twitter is nose diving and it is sad to see academics favouring scornful banter over intellectual dialogue.

There is no better example of accumulation by appropriation than the way for-profit journals function. They take the writings of academics for free, get the text edited and reviewed by volunteers, and sell it back to universities for a huge fee.

The lowest hanging fruit of the ecological transition is to stop inciting people to fly more. There is no excuse for not having done that already. Stay Grounded Network

The planet is burning and what we worry about is GDP. It is absurd. It would be like staying in a house on fire just to win a game of Monopoly.
