Quite spellbound by this Vintage collection of Platonov’s Soul and Other Stories. I particularly enjoyed Motherland of Electricity, which has been chewing in my mind all day. A profound collection.

Finished Tsujimura’s Lonely Castle in the Mirror while visiting Osaka, Japan. A heartwarming story and intriguing characters. However, I agree with the Japan Times that it lacks subtlety. A good read for teens or young adults.

Twenty years ago today Michael Caine, Brendan Fraser and Do Thi Hai Yen starred in the romantic drama thriller #TheQuietAmerican from director Phillip Noyce in his follow up to Rabbit-Proof Fence. The film would earn Caine his fourth Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
