Four Of One Hundred.

The striking flowers of Rhododendron Nobleanum grex were a welcome sight this morning as I started work. This tree was planted Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in 1969 and belongs to the family of flowering plants Ericaceae, along with 4250 other known species.

Two Of A Hundred
Recently I visited Glasgow Botanic Gdns
My eye was drawn, to the vibrant colours of this amazing plant called Heliconia metallica. Most of the species are native to the tropical Americas. One of the common names is, toucan beak and I can see the resemblance!

Sad to see this corylus go today but it had to be due to the meripilus giganteus causing root decay of which there's no way to monitor.
Good safe job with the team Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

Strobilanthes dyeriana belonging to the family Acanthaceae. This is a tropical plant native to Myanmar. I love the metallic purple lines coming from the central foliage.

Today marked Elspeth’s retirement after 32 years of working at RBGE. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to work with her during my AGS placement. She is incredibly generous with her knowledge and time

Looking after the glasshouses Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh this weekend and getting to see New Reekie, Amorphophallus titanum was great to behold. Unfortunately the glasshouses aren't open to public at this time.
