H Akston Mother of Pitbulls I'd agree with Evie, weather is great Jan / Feb and accommodation cheaper after Xmas.
We had a magical 18 day driving tour of the South Island, but still felt rushed & too much driving.
I'd concentrate on Wanaka, Queenstown, Milford Sound, & Kaikoura.
Come back for N Island
