“One cat just leads to another”

As the story goes, after a night of revelry with an old sea captain, Ernest Hemingway was gifted a six-toed cat named Snow White, sparking his love for polydactyl cats.

His thriving clowder came to be known as the Hemingway Cats.

In the 1800s, sailors kept polydactyl cats on their ships for good luck. They believed their extra toes made them better hunters & would provide more traction on rough seas. Other names for these cats include mitten cats, boxing cats, & snowshoe cats.
