In a carrot root, the xylem forms a central core, while the phloem is found in between the xylem in the vascular cylinder. This arrangement ensures that both the water and nutrients are efficiently transported to where they are needed in the plant

Did you know are also called phloem-feeders or sap-suckers?

They're specialised at feeding from their host plants' phloem & they need bacterial in order to be able to metabolise the sugar-rich phloem. This means they can rarely feed from different plants!

Practicing some bushcraft this weekend. Braided rope made from inner catalpa bark (phloem?). It peels off fallen branches in very strong, fibrous strands, and can easily be braided together in sections.
I cannot tear this rope, no matter how hard I try. Will use in the garden.

Year 12 biologists have been studying mass transport in plants. Here are some amazing microscopy images they’ve taken of the xylem and phloem in celery

Wormwood cuttings using honey as a natural stimulant for growth to help with xylem and phloem 🙂
I am an environmental scientist and ecologist after all, which is why I understand basic biology 🤗

원숭이도 맛없어서 안 먹어;;

Y11 Students have been working really hard revising for their y11 Science exams, practicing extended 6 mark questions on xylem and Phloem.
2 weeks to go- They have got this!!

here is work produced by Katie and Gracie who are Mr Keen's

Thrilled to share our latest work, led by @JožicaGričar!✨ We analysed 8 years of phloem & xylem data in Picea abies🌲 & Fagus sylvatica🌳 and found site- and species-specific climate effects, often with contrasting responses between xylem and phloem: doi.org/10.1111/pce.14…

Twitter dendrologists, mycologists, &/or oak pathologists, I need your help:

what the heck did I stumble upon in the oak woodlands yesterday?

Fallen oak. San Ramon/Dublin area. Looks like fungus is Stereum ostrea? But what causes this pattern? Exposed xylem & phloem? Mycelia?

Ever wonder what those stringy things on bananas are? And are they OK to eat?

These strands, known as 'phloem bundles,' play a crucial role in the growth and development of bananas
