Moody skies and very muddy boots on today’s ramble πŸ₯Ύaround Scout Moor and Cheesden Mills ruins. Nice pampering manicure πŸ’…πŸΌ afterwards then off out later for a curry and a few gins 🍸. πŸ™‚ pretty decent Saturday.

Why bother? Why map read when we have gps and phone apps?
Because map reading is freedom. When there’s no signal, low battery and no tourist path.

Teaching OS map symbols? Great fun activity idea. Ask students to imagine they own an island which they would love to live on. Get them to draw it but only using OS map symbols. They love this and it allows them to explore symbols in detail.

Off for a walk this weekend? Don't forget your OS map. Don't get us wrong, we love our mobile phones, but reception isn't always great when you're up on the tops or in a distant fell. Better to be safe.

22/2/2023 'As it Should Be'. A circle drawn on the map where I think I am and the OSMaps app confirming that I am indeed there.
