Driving home yesterday, I almost had to swerve as this Great Spotted Cuckoo appeared in my peripheral vision! It landed where I was safe to stop, and showed rather well! A rare bird in the Balearic Islands, though NOCMIG studies are showing it’s a regular nocturnal migrant here.

Amazed to have recorded a Night Heron move over Hunmanby in the early hours of Friday morning. It's a species I've been hoping for since I started 4 years ago! It called 22 times as it moved through the darkness, incredible - trektellen.org/count/view/209… #nocmig

#nocmig recordings of common scoter over Stafford. It’s possible that they are using the Penk Valley up to the River Trent as a migration route over the county. Which is cool as one of the records was from my back garden ⁦WestMidlandBirdClub⁩

#NocMig recording is hard work in December (eight completely blank hours!) but I'm a newbie learning my craft. I did detect two new species: Golden Plover and Skylark.

A quiet day on Mizen came good at the end when I (re)located the Nocmig Semipalmated Plover from July/August. The first time it’s actually been seen.
