I know it can be difficult to talk about this topic, but we must because far too often it’s hard to recognize—or acknowledge—the signs of an abusive relationship when you’re in one or when someone you love is.

Note to self: Don't be ashamed for staying so long in an abusive marriage. Be proud for finally having the strength to get out.

Intimate partner violence ( ) doesn’t discriminate. It can also be hard to spot.

Many survivors learn how to put on a good face, and may not disclose the abuse to anyone.

Becoming familiar with the is a good way to be more aware of the signs of IPV.

Abusive behavior often involves a cycle of tension building, explosive incidents, and then periods of reconciliation or calm. This cycle can lead to intermittent abusive episodes, making it difficult for victims to predict when the abuse might occur

This is something I find infuriating about

Victims forced into a perpetual cycle of personal and systemic abuse while the perp is enabled to abuse and be absolved of guilt. Victims carry the weight for their whole lives

There is a typical pattern to abuse. It is referred to as the cycle of violence. It has 3 distinct phases. They happen like a cycle, then the cycle repeats itself. Often the time to go through the cycle gets shorter the more times it is repeated.

The Cycle of Abuse, the pattern never changes. The cycle could be within a couple of days, couple of weeks or months but it always follows the same pattern. Do you recognise it? Have you experienced this cycle?

There are 3 phases in the cycle of violence: Tension-Building Phase, Acute or Crisis Phase, Calm/Honeymoon Phase. The frequency and severity of the abuse increases over time. The honeymoon phase may become shorter, and the tension and violence may increase.
