A study published today found that illegal killing is a major cause of death in Hen Harriers. Mortality due to illegal killing was higher in areas managed for Red Grouse shooting.

Sometimes the most popular in place for newly arrived birds (and birders) in the Arctic can be sewage lagoons. These areas often melt first, and can provide rich feeding during the early season. This bird is feeding in a sewage outflow stream.
