Within the NAB business conditions survey, the employment index fell from +6.4 points in March to +1.9 points in April, the lowest level since January 2022 - suggesting that business labour demand has 'normalised somewhat,' according to NAB economists.

The monthly CommBank Household Spending Insights (HSI) Index fell 1% in April to 148.11 points following an early Easter bump in March, with annual spending growth slowing to just 2.6% for the year.
