The imv very signif bit: its funded by closing the Shared Prosperity Fund, which was the UK replacement for EU structural funds, in 2028 after only six years. UKSPF is a 'central pillar' of 'levelling up' (source: HMG).

Directing #UKSPF Funding to #NationalService would mean even more cuts to basic youth and community services. This funding is being used to attempt to fill some of the gaps created by years of austerity. This highlights a government with no plan and no new ideas #chaos

Whatever you think of mandatory community service for 18yos, funding it by ending local funding for wider specialist employment support, workplace skills, adult numeracy, business support, community regeneration etc doesn't make sense to me.

Suank wants more disabled people in work. He wants to scrap UKSPF, which funds employability support for the disabled. He will use UKSPF money to fund National Service, removing young people from the labour market. This is incoherent Labour market policy. #ukspf #nationalservice

'The scheme would be part-funded through a £1bn tax avoidance clampdown and £1.5bn currently spent on the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.'

UKSPF was meant to replace a big chunk of European funding #VCSE used to receive & is sadly already inaccessible for most.

In Sheffield, we have used UKSPF to:
• decarbonise community buildings & SMEs
• provide cost-of-living support
• deliver support for new start-ups & social enterprises
• support high streets

Replacing that with compulsory National Service shows a Government bereft of ideas.

These are the criteria that underpinned the UKSPF. 'NB Mission 1: By 2030, pay, employment and productivity will have risen in every area of the UK.' Feels a little way from Bring Back National Service.
