Just watched a lecturer saying how 'personality disorders are not mental illnesses' and how they are 'not treatable'. I understand ref. to Axis II in DSM, but this rhetoric is stigmatising and untrue. I've too many friends who have died because of similar nonsense.

3/2(more to say)BPD/EUPD is a blatant attack on young females emotions and leads to harmful treatment (or lack of) with services refusing to treat people or having little sympathy .I will forever shout and campaign for bpd to be declassified .

Plus, realistically, how many of us would feel able to challenge what a trusted therapist or doctor is telling us about ourselves? Not many.

👆🏼 One small anecdote AMONGST many on twitter to highlight that secret diagnoses based on prejudice, preconceived ideas and in the absence of proper assessments are bad and do not lead to good clinical outcomes.

shocking news the police have decided they will no longer attend mental health issues.
so who will?
who has decided this - the police or the government

this is a disaster at a time of terrible mental health cuts

Looking for some evidence/literature:
Why does it matter to Dx accurately Autism +/- BPD/EUPD?
What effect is there on treatment approach?
How does it affect suicidality/risk and DoL?

Okay 🧵 on the harms of mis- and missed diagnosis of BPD in autistic people. Firstly the harms from actually autistic folk include but are not limited to the broader harms of the PD construct which I won't discuss here

You know, the worst thing that can happened to an already traumatised individual is not being believed when they are telling the truth.

I told MH professionals my horrific past, and I was never taken seriously. I was deemed to have made a story up. 1/

To me my safe space was a room full of my attachments in one room caring for me but to think of that as a safe space left me even more wounded because it wasn’t true but it also was exactly the same in connection to finding a place where one is safe.

For those with the hugely harmful EUPD label on your medical records - do you actually know how you were given that diagnosis? And WHY? And by who? And if you tried to question it/ask for justification-what were you told?

Service I was referred to and wanted to meet me and started going on about some sort of assessment that I hadn’t previously been told about and that she wanted to meet me first and talk about a few things. The words “emotional intensity” aka their name for EUPD

Have you ever felt like you were being neglected or mistreated by mental health services?

I’d love to know how common this is. Suspect it happens even more than we realise but ppl are afraid to speak up or don’t think others care. I care

If you’d prefer to reply by dm feel free

Today I got a lovely reminder how powerful neuro affirming approach to support can be.
Too many people are stuck in the system/crisis because they haven't had the opportunity to explore their experiences validating lens NotPD
