A game of secrets and lies. 'Bloody Orkney' is a fast-paced thriller set in Scotland, mainly in Orkney, during WW2. Stromness has changed since 1942 but would still be recognisable to the book's characters.

Summer bus timetable now in place in & there's now hourly buses from Kirkwall to via Stromness, the Stones of Stenness & Ring of Brodgar. So a walk at Skaill bay seemed the right choice today! I ❤️ my local bus service

One thing I was not expecting to find at Skara Brae: Captain Cook’s dinner service, given as a gift of condolence to the wife of the local laird, who had just died. Stromness was the 1st British port of call for the Resolution & Discovery on their return from Cook’s 3rd voyage.

Magnus Davidson Strictly speaking, the author might be correct but only if one forgets that the quoted 25 mile sea crossing is between Scrabster and Stromness. I reckon you could almost get 25 miles out of Portskerra to somewhere on Hoy… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Magnus Davidson The whole article is so problematic it appeals perfectly to the sense of humour of the great great grand daughter of the Stromness gasworks

British composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (9/8/1934-3/14/206) is known for his outspoken activism as well as his dramatic works that often shook his audiences such “Eight Songs for a Mad King” or the more subtle “Farewell to Stromness”.
