Nikolai Myaskovsky (20 April 1881-1950) was for some years the most performed Soviet composer in the West. His symphonies were especially popular in Chicago. At home he was a central figure as composer and teacher. Everyone, including Prokofiev and Shostakovich, looked up to him.

Barbara Cohen Prokofiev had a very strong influence on Alexander Tcherepnin, who idolized him, but it is Tcherepnin who is still completely overshadowed (also commercially) by Prokofiev & Shostakovich. Below the recording of the very impressive 6th Piano Concerto [1965].

Shostakovich Waltz No 2 : A dance that takes Soviet theatricality and combines it with a sense of romantic lightness to create something profound . It is a good example of how music can tell stories without words and it’s painted with memorable melody lines , conflicting

Dün akşam bu eserleri Tugan Sokhiev’in batonu altında dinledik.

Kendisinin Berlin ile yaptığı çok tatlı Shostakovich kayıtları mevcut keza bu Tchaikovsky 1 de çok güzeldi.

Chopin’in 1. Piyano Konçertosu bence en sıkıcı piyano konçertolardan birisi. Onun haricinde çok güzel

A clip from our performance at the beautiful Julie Rogers Theater in Beaumont. Joint concert with the Lamar University Band. Here is the final to “Festive Overture, Op. 96” by Dmitri Shostakovich.

Bravo, kids! 👏

Coming to the realisation that I no longer wish to hear a note of Prokofiev or Shostakovich ever again.
Just my changing tastes as I age, I guess.
