#AB1990 the #STOPAct has passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee. Californians are tired of the growing epidemic that is retail theft.

The policy is clear: retail crime must have consequences. We must prioritize public safety, small businesses and retail jobs.

Please say no to the AB1990 #StopAct It authorizes an officer to make a warrantless arrest for shoplifting offenses not committed in the officer’s presence if the officer has probable cause to believe that person shoplifted. Bad for black and brown folks.

Today, I introduced a bill to re-authorize the #STOPAct . Alcohol is the most popular drug of use, and most prevalent substance of misuse among our nation’s youth. Congress must re-authorize the STOP Act and further the important and effective work that it has made possible.

Earlier this summer, the House passed my bi-partisan #STOPAct that will fight the influx of fentanyl in our communities and help turn the tide in the Opioid Crisis.
