House Sparrows seem to love collecting fibres from old Tree Mallows for their nests - caught this male working away at the dead stems of one yesterday, a frequent sight around the harbour in recent weeks. Last photo shows this plant in flower in June 2022

Colours of Rathlin

This is my first image since snow in the Mournes in January! This time it’s a summer sunrise at Rathlin Island’s east lighthouse, with a carpet of Heather and gorse typical of Rathlin in august.

Bluebells are suddenly looking spectacular on Rathlin, even in today's wet and gloomy weather - this field in particular has an impressive swathe of blue flowers, and an occasional odd one out

Grogochs were originally half human, half-fairy aborigines who came from Kintyre in Scotland to settle in Ireland. The grogoch, well-known throughout north Antrim, Rathlin Island and parts of Donegal, may also to be found on the Isle of Man,

Today's Grey-headed Wagtail is amazingly the FOURTH Yellow Wagtail recorded on Rathlin this spring - all males, and all different subspecies 🤯 This one just as stonking, but unfortunately just as distant and unapproachable as all the others 😅
