Today and tomorrow we’re following this 1812 circular issued by Boston's Selectmen on its #preservation lab journey. Here it’s drying after a distilled water bath - grime from the paper has tinted the water yellow! Once dried its next stop is paper repair. #PreservationWeek

Here’s some #oddlysatisfying book vacuuming for #PreservationWeek ! Since dust is acidic and will cause damage if it accumulates, we clean our books as a preventative #preservation measure. But you don’t need a vacuum attachment to clean your books, a soft brush will do the trick!

Ending #PreservationWeek with a storage tip for your oversized books! If you can't store them flat, place them spine down on the shelf. Gravity will pull the text block away from the spine if the spine is up. And don’t worry, we flipped this book when we noticed it upside down!

It's still #preservationweek ! In our humidification chamber, water vapor enters the fibers of this poster from the Jeannette Widom Papers Relating to GASP, allowing them to relax. This process is handy for tightly rolled or folded items that cannot be opened without damage.
