Volar Barton fractures will displace when splinted in extension because the carpus will load on the unstable volar rim fragment.
Flexion directs the load to the intact dorsal side (temporarily, because your surgically fix this anyway!)

Simple trick for reducing spiral fracture tibia without clamp.
Wrap a triangular surgical towel around the fracture and tighten it. The hoop reduces the fracture and you can adjust rotation while that happens.
