Amazing that 50 years later this argument is still live. That is SdB's response to a proposal to value the mothering that women do, especially that with little children.

'The govt is proposing to bring funded childcare entitlement down to meet the end of maternity leave pay. This is financially helpful but may be emotionally difficult. At nine months, babies cannot talk, cannot usually walk, and milk is still their main source of nutrition.'

The UK's major parties are pushing their approaches to childcare on social media - with promises of more 'free' childcare hours so mums can get on with work.
