This morning, I updated the BC Building Code with #MassTimber changes - effective immediately - that will:
✅Allow for 18 stories.
✅Allow for 9 stories without drywall.
✅Allow for different building structures - like schools and libraries.

The provincial government has announced that it plans to amend the Ontario Building Code to permit #masstimber structures as tall as 18-storeys. This represents the type of change we hoped would occur following the positive example set by Limberlost Place.

The types of encapsulated mass timber construction buildings allowed are now expanded to include - schools, libraries, retail, some industrial occupancies, and care facilities. 🏫

Based on height and use - more exposed mass timber is allowed. For residential buildings up to 8-storeys we’ve removed the requirement to encapsulate so more of the wood's beauty can be displayed. 🪵
