1/2 🌀 Tropical Storm IALY intensified to the Tropical Cyclone stage, marking a historic event in the South-West Indian Ocean basin. Positioned just 250 km from Pemba Island and less than 300 km from Mombasa, it's a rare occurrence within this latitude range. See satellite at 4pm
🌪️ After a brief cyclone stage, IALY weakens into a strong tropical storm, notable for its intensity near the equator. •IALY’s center will stay over 150km from the African coast, with peripheral bands starting to touch the area.
As of May 22 at 3:16 p.m. EAT, IALY has dissipated, with the system filling up during the day. It will be remembered as the most northerly Tropical Cyclone, reaching 4.7°S.

Tropical Cyclone IALY brought devastation to the Kenyan coast on Tuesday, killing at least two people and injuring five others due to strong winds. As of the latest update, Cyclone IALY has weakened after hitting the Indian ocean.

🌀 Update on MODERATE TROPICAL STORM #IALY : 🌍 May 22, 09:36 a.m. local time in Kenya: •A low pressure system exists in the South-West Indian Ocean. •No other suspicious areas are present, and no formation of another low pressure system is expected in the next five days.
Although landfall is not expected, #Ialy is passing closer to the coast of Kenya than any previous tropical storm in the historical record whilst on its unusual track northwards.
