A Royal County in southern England, #Berkshire lies along the south bank of the River Thames.
The county's honorific prefix Royal dates to the 19th century at least.
This is because of the presence of #Windsor Castle in the county.

It commemorates his gathering of the #Somerset people, to battle and defeat the invading Danes in May 878.
By the time of his death he was the dominant ruler in England.
