We took a few moments this morning to work on making some of our hat tools for the upcoming felt hatmaking class that we plan to do in May. This particular tool is called a Puller Downer. It's used for easing the felt over the block and creating the brim.

Place name origins – H is for Hatfields. The area around here was once fields where beaver skins were prepared for hatmaking. Southwark was famous for its hat makers, one of whom was Tress & Co, who occupied the site in nearby Stamford Street from the late C19th to the mid C20th.
