10/14 When #HarrisTweed comes off the loom, it's stiff & greasy. Waulking (=fulling) removes the dirt & oil and makes the cloth shrink by friction & pressure. The resulting fabric is soft, tight, isolating & water repellent. Waulking was done by hand by women until the 1950s.
