Refreshing to discuss GE2017 with postgrads at Cardiff School of Journalism.

A nice change from tiresome attacks by those who were shocked Corbyn came within a few seats of winning (despite the sabotage) and who rewrite history to 'prove' a left manifesto wasn't the main reason.

William Large TheIainDuncanSmiths Corbyn probably would have won GE2017, especially without the 2016 Chicken Coup, mounted immediately after Corbyn went ahead in the polls. The upward trajectory in 2017 could then well have put them over the line.

It absolutely was, imo NS's mistake was firing the gun too quickly. The votes were barely counted and she made a speech announcing the pursuit of indyref2 resulted in eyerolls. She should have let it settle before striking. Perhaps fighting GE2017 on a single issue manifesto.

Chaminda Jayanetti Drachma Queen That new piece says Morgan McSweeney was determined to remove Corbyn immediately after GE2017 while the Grenfell Tower burned in front of him. That's an advanced level of not accepting two successive democratic mandates. But oh you got me! Truss and Corbyn are the same!

This is Starmerโ€™s panicky response to the results after 2/5/24 local election results. Previously heโ€™d told me I should be nowhere near the Labour Party, Wes told us heโ€™d worked against Labour GE2017 & GE2019, Dame Hodge told she knew of party plans to usurp Corbyn if heโ€™d got PM

ShoetownOwl The Labour Party Diane Abbott MP Jeremy Corbyn Not in the slightest. The Labour Party parliamentary party are the answer to the shock of GE2017. When a mild, democratic socialist with huge popular support, a sort of anti-Thatcher, becomes a threat, this is what you end up with - the unacceptable face of The Crown's 'place-men'...

Frank Sobotka when he defended Margaret Hodge over yelling abuse at Corbyn was when I was like 'oh ok, this guy is a raving fucking wingnut who just has a 'reasonable' affect'. then he revealed that in GE2017 he was already convinced that Labour were too institutionally antisemitic to vote for

macconraoi KJH TJH1957 Where were the warnings from when May announced her Lan Hse redlines of leaving the SM-CU in January 2017 to the GE result in the June?

If the EU was consistent pre&post GE2017 Lan Hse wld have been rejected as unworkable?

Why wasn't it?

Guy_Underscore JWExTheSpa I knocked 5 hours a day, 7 days a week for the entire GE2017 campaign. The number of votes we lost from people that didn't like Corbyn was pretty low, and results showed that.

In GE2019 the anti-corbyn stuff was less, if anything. 'Get Brexit Done' effect was massive.

Solomon Hughes Once again to keep it simple, there was a ceasefire in place Oct6, 2023. Who broke it? And what did they do?

Corbyn was personal marmite, hence didnโ€™t win GE2017; he or any other Lab leader had no chance vs Get Brexit Done in 2019. Thereโ€™s more to it but two essential truths.
