The Norman font from the church of the Hospital of St. Cross at Winchester in Hampshire. #FontsOnFriday 📸 My own.
Norman font at St Andrew’s Grinton in Swaledale, carved from a block of gritstone probably from the Stainmore Formation (U Carboniferous). The wooden, and unusually 9-sided cover is associated with a later font, now lost #fontsonfriday #urbangeology #fontaneering
The simple 13thC font at St Mary's, Whaddon has an absolutely lovely modern cover, it manages to compliment it perfectly.

St Mary's church, East Haddon, #Northamptonshire
Three churches, three fonts, three centuries between them. Three opportunities to admire the craft of the medieval mason (contented sigh). #StAndrewDurnford #StMaryAndStMelorAmesbury #AllSaintsEnford #FontsOnFriday #TheHistoryMouseTopThree #AvonScamper2024
#FontsOnFriday In 1850, Sir George Gilbert Scott designed a new font for St Michael's Ledbury, to replace a C17th one which had gone missing.
The older one was rediscovered, broken up & buried beneath where the new font was to be positioned! [Source GilbertScott.org]
#FontsOnFriday One of the 4 carved sides of All Saints' font, West Haddon, #Northamptonshire . The baptism of Jesus, with (probably) John the baptist on the left and an angel on the right. The curious thing is that He is in a font, not the Jordan river !
