Great to see a positive response to Friday’s The Guardian editorial. Enjoyment of books and of writing is being squeezed from the curriculum. The Balancing Act looks at how to ensure children develop both skills and motivation to read and write in a culture that promotes creativity.

What a stunning way to launch a new book! Angel of Grasmere Tom Palmer Barrington Stoke is a must read addition to a KS2/3 school library: a village in war-time Lakeland wonders at mystery acts of kindness, whilst Tarn mourns her brother lost at Dunkirk. Buy! Read! Share!
Brilliant - congratulations Carol Atherton for regalvanising this crucial conversation! (And maybe this could help in a small way too taylorfrancis.com/books/mono/10.…)
Tomorrow the children of Grasmere School & Nursery, their adults and I are going to re-open the refreshment hut on the side of Easedale Tarn near Grasmere. Shown here well over 100 years ago. The hut closed in 1939, so when we serve teas and cakes it’ll be the first time for 85 years. 1/5
We’re reopening it to celebrate the publication of my new book, #AngelOfGrasmere . A book the school helped me plan, research, edit and now promote. 3/5
