I hope we’ll have more people who speak intelligently about masculinity as does Richard V. Reeves without turning it into a cheap culture war polemic

During the race-and-pandemic turmoil of 2020 and 2021, young leftists were granted a wide berth to go buck wild, while safetyism disciplined the right.

Now they're learning that the establishment is happy to use the same disciplinary methods against them. substackfwd.xyz/?url=https://c…

“The logic of h.r. safetyism runs counter to political contestation as such.

One day, that might be convenient for constricting populists.

But the next day, the same methods can be used to restrict political contestation from the other direction.” substackfwd.xyz/?url=https://c…

You can’t dismantle the master’s house using the master’s tools.

The university left is learning this the hard way, as their institutions crack down on protest—using the business end of the same “safety” ideology that once used against the right.

I hate when people (especially Catholics) laud Jordan Peterson. But I can’t deny that the guy has helped me immensely.

‘European civilisation is characterised by a unique feature: permanent self-criticism is part of its identity’. (Žižek). One could add that this is rooted both in its ‘eccentricity’ (Rémi Brague), conveying the other and older, and in the Christian impulse to permanent reform.

for example, they love when gay men and black women are 'sassy' and 'fierce,' but they are deeply disturbed when said sassiness gives way to making unPC comments.

In other words, throw shade, but keep it within the bounds of white suburban upper-middle class propriety

there's a demographic of white boomer females who pride themselves on being 'allies' to oppressed minorities (blacks, gays etc) but who get offended when they behave in a way that's not palatable to their respectable bourgeois sensibilities (ie too black/too gay)

To foreigners exclusionary zoning and its effects are one of the most baffling aspect of life in the US.

The real problem though is how it has shaped people's expectations about the kind of place they want to live in.

An awesome piece by my friend Patrick Tomassi on home ownership costs, zoning, and suburban sprawl...and why conservatives should be concerned about it, in Public Discourse

Students could take this to the next level by leaving these elite schools en masse for public/small liberal arts ones

It would pose a threat to both these elite unis & the current neoliberal order, from which they’d be removing themselves by giving up their elitist credentials
