Artists should keep their merch sales revenue in full. True. And that's why grassroots music venues support the The FAC 100% Venues campaign.

It will be a missed opportunity to deliver this to the best of our ability as invested stakeholders if we allow a statutory framework to force us to deliver it as distrusted contributors.

Now we have been told that we must, and given a deadline to do it by: September 2024. I will do all I can to support hitting that deadline, because a statutory levy, and the regulation that would go with it, is much less efficient and much less effective.

It’s an incredibly sensible and strangely obvious concept to invest in your future prosperity by supporting and developing your supply line. We are actually very unusual as an industry and a country in not doing it.

On the question of investing a small amount from the sales of our must successful events into the start up, grassroots activity at the beginning of artists careers, it has been puzzling me for years why we, as a whole live music industry ecosystem, haven’t just done this already.
